Freezin’ for a Reason! Greater Cincinnati Polar Plunge back at The Banks on Saturday, January 27 — 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Participants to Take an Icy Plunge to Support Special Olympic Athletes throughout Ohio & Kentucky
(January 16, 2024) – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The 2024 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ohio & Special Olympics Kentucky will take place in downtown Cincinnati at The Banks (150 East Freedom Way). Polar plungers will take an icy dip in an 18’ x 9’ x 52” pool to raise funds to support programs for the athletes from both states.
The fun-filled event will take place on Saturday, January 27th from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. with registration starting at 9:00 a.m. In the spirit of “Freezin’ for a Reason,” participants will show their enthusiasm for the cause by wearing crazy costumes accentuated with a boost of adrenaline as they get ready to take the plunge. The festivities will include music, coffee trucks, and the always entertaining costume contest before the plunge. Joining the fun, mascots from the Cincinnati Reds, FC Cincinnati, Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Cyclones, and Flying Pig will be on-hand to encourage participants to jump in. Immediately following the event, The Stretch will be hosting the Official Post Plunge Party featuring a Hot Spiked Cider with $1 of each drink sold will be donated to Special Olympics.
The Greater Cincinnati Polar Plunge is one of eight that have been scheduled to take place in communities across Ohio from January through March. Participants are invited to either take part in-person or virtually with their teams in support of the 20,000 Special Olympics athletes throughout Ohio. Participation in the in-person or virtual event is open by visiting greatercincinnatiplunge.com.
The impact of the Polar Plunge supports year-round sports training and competition, health education and leadership programs for Special Olympics athletes. By fundraising $75 or more, participants help provide opportunities for athletes at no cost to them while creating a greater sense of belonging for everyone in the community.
