Every year, the week before the Super Bowl features the largest gathering of media in the U.S., and one of the biggest in the world, as thousands of outlets visit the big game’s host city. Radio and TV shows, podcasts, print journalists, and thousands of others set up to cover the news and festivities before Super Bowl Sunday.
Special Olympics has been on-site at “Radio Row” for many years. Athlete leaders team up with celebrity ambassadors and supporters to discuss our sports, health, education, leadership, and overall movement stories with some of the biggest outlets in the world, and 2020 was bigger and better than ever.
Juice and former NFL linebacker Dhani Jones on Sway’s Universe (Sirius XM)
Global Ambassadors Erika Ender and Big Show, were joined by many other supporters who donated their time to represent inclusion in action. This year’s celebrity supporters included Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns), Dhani Jones (played for the Bengals, Giants, and Eagles; media personality), Dalton Risner (Denver Broncos), Merril Hoge (played for the Steelers; NFL analyst), and Mack Hollins (Miami Dolphins). The true stars of this event, however, were the Special Olympics athlete leaders who shared their stories and one of them is from right here in Ohio!
Juice and Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield
Antrone “Juice” Williams was a college and international semi-professional basketball player before a brain hemorrhage nearly ended his life in 2012. After being given a 50% chance of survival, Juice beat the odds and says he found a new home and purpose at Special Olympics Ohio. Now this athlete leader from Toledo plays Unified basketball, flag football, and is a member of the newly formed statewide Athlete Input Council. Juice says that his involvement with Special Olympics has not just given him another chance to play the sport he loves, he truly believes that Special Olympics sports saved his life.
