POSITION TITLE: Vice President, Development
REPORTS TO: President and Chief Executive Officer
LOCATION: Columbus HQ with Hybrid Considerations
TRAVEL: 40% – mostly within Ohio
The Vice President, Development, is a dynamic, relationship-based fundraising leader responsible for overall organizational revenue generation through new and existing revenue streams in support of the mission of Special Olympics Ohio (SOOH). This position oversees a development team of region-based fundraising directors and critical development support staff. The VP, Development, will develop and execute fundraising strategies and lead a fully integrated culture of philanthropy throughout the entire SOOH team, including the Board of Directors and SOOH’s community-based programs. This position will be the critical development liaison to work across the Sports and Inclusion teams to ensure full integration of all aspects of fund development directives throughout Special Olympics Ohio. The VP, Development, is an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team focused on the successful execution of organizational strategies, while living and leading the mission and core values of the organization.

Essential Job Functions

• Develops, manages, and ensures the day-to-day execution of all fund development strategies to meet and exceed Special Olympics Ohio’s annual fundraising goals
• Facilitates implementation of appropriate change management initiatives, and reviews current development programs to ensure successful execution and strategic alignment with organizational goals
• Leads the Development Team and ensures annual operation plan objectives and performance goals are achieved through all revenue streams: individual giving/major gifts, corporate revenue, foundation and grants giving, service clubs, and signature fundraising events
• Leads team, builds growth strategies, and executes to identify, cultivate, and prospect new investors and donors
• In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Director, creates targeted marketing strategies including social media and content marketing to develop viable leads
• Designs and executes endowment campaign strategies
• Ensures the delivery of a mission-impact stewardship plan
• In collaboration with the CEO, participates in the development of the strategic planning process and drives to achieve results for all revenue generating initiatives
• Creates collaborative partnerships resulting in annual revenue growth
• Manages new revenue portfolio, as well as designated accounts for moves management
• Builds out volunteer driven committees to ensure movement to a volunteer-driven culture
• Communicates the context for support, the mission and vision of SOOH, to ensure partnership alignment with organizational program, marketing, and communication efforts
• Serves as the staff liaison to the Development Committee of the SOOH Board of Directors
• Prepares, analyzes and presents monthly business development and revenue reports for the organization
• Ensures the implementation and full utilization of CRM database
• Develops innovative and new fundraising platforms
• Manages the negotiation and execution of contracts with funding sources, vendors and collaborative service providers
• Supports and mentors fundraising efforts of Special Olympics Ohio’s Local Organizations

Preferred Qualifications, Experience & Skills
• Master’s in business administration (MBA)
• Motivation, initiative and the ability to lead a team of volunteers and staff
• High level of resilience and flexibility; remaining calm under pressure
• Confidence in prospecting and engaging donors, resulting in new funding resources
• Strong written communications to clearly and effectively articulate the programmatic and strategic objectives of SOOH
• Outstanding personal demeanor with strong public speaking skills
• Strong organizational skills with critical attention to detail
• Responsive to internal and external client needs to include the Board of Directors, funding sources, other provider organizations and Special Olympics Ohio Staff.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office; adaptive computer skills in other relevant database systems

Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience of significant revenue generation greater than $3 million
• 8-10 years of management experience in non-profit fund development
• Minimum of 5 years of staff/team management

Miscellaneous Information
1. Position is full-time, exempt
2. Days/hours of work – Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
3. Evening/weekend work are required as job duties demand
