POSITION TITLE: Manager, Unified Champion Schools (South-Central Region)
REPORTS TO: Director, Unified Champion Schools

LOCATION: Southeast and Central Ohio/Remote
TRAVEL: 50%
Position Summary
Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools (UCS) is an education-based strategy for Pre-K through 12 and colleges/ universities that intentionally promotes meaningful social inclusion by bringing together students with and without intellectual disabilities to create accepting school environments. UCS utilizes three interconnected components: Special Olympics Unified Sports®, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole School Engagement. The Manager of Unified Champion Schools is responsible for school-based program support and resources, school staff/volunteer training and management, and implementation of UCS initiatives. In addition, the Manager serves as a spokesperson, role model, program assistant, and professional development presenter responsible for region-based growth in the South-Central Region of Ohio (23 counties in Central and Southeast Ohio).
This position requires a detail-oriented leader who can engage with constituents at the school level: coaches, volunteers, administrators, educators, athletes (students with intellectual disabilities), partners (students without intellectual disabilities), community partners, and fans. The ideal candidate believes deeply in the mission of Special Olympics – in particular, in the value of Unified Champion Schools and social inclusion as a school priority. This person will be capable of motivating and activating youth and adults, participating in face-to-face/virtual conversations, utilizing digital tools and social media to promote the UCS efforts, implementing sports events and competitions, and collaborating effectively to ensure materials and resources earmarked to promote UCS are deployed effectively.
Essential Job Functions

• In partnership with the Director, Unified Champion Schools, plan, organize, and implement high-caliber Unified Sports®, Whole School Engagement, and Inclusive Youth Leadership opportunities
• Collaborate with other UCS and Special Olympics Ohio staff members and community partners who support the activities of Unified Champion Schools
• Communicate the initiatives of UCS through public speaking, writing, and leading meetings and trainings for audiences of all sizes
• Adhere to the SOOH Strategic Plan and Operations Plan on which the UCS efforts will focus
• In collaboration with Special Olympics Ohio leadership, design and develop the plan, quarterly goals, and measures of success for your work and professional goals
• In collaboration with the VP, Inclusion and Engagement, manage all aspects necessary for reporting (athlete engagement, medical records, coaches training, participation data, expense reports, etc.) to ensure compliance and continued grant funding
• Integrate UCS initiatives into State and Regional sporting events, school/youth divisions and competitions, volunteer opportunities, and other activities
• Generate informational reports to use in relational, district-level, and community meetings, and in reporting outcomes of competitions for sharing with district-level and community media
• Engage relevant stakeholders (parents, educators, district-level staff) to generate and collect impact stories and in evaluation at the conclusion of events
• Produce content for social media and newsletters in order to build and maintain momentum and enthusiasm around Special Olympics events and programs

Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Education, Recreation/Fitness, or related field
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office; adaptive computer skills in other relevant database systems
• Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and capability of communicating well, in both written and oral formats, with a diverse range of individuals
Preferred Qualifications, Experience and Skills
• 2+ years of professional or volunteer experience in a role with a sports- or school-based organization similar to Special Olympics; or in a closely related field, school, or non-profit organization
• Reside in one of the counties in Central or Southeast Ohio (Franklin, Union, Madison, Fayette, Ross, Pike, Scioto, Delaware, Licking, Perry, Morgan, Noble, Monroe, and all other counties southeast of listed counties)
• Experience in fundraising for a non-profit organization
Miscellaneous Information
1. Position is full-time, exempt (salaried), and paid bi-weekly
2. Position is remote with 50% travel, mostly in the South-Central Region and occasionally other Ohio locations
3. Schedule is primarily business or school-day hours (Monday-Friday), with occasional nights and weekends as event and school schedules require
4. Independent in-state travel required, including overnight and weekend travel as an essential function of position
5. Required to maintain and provide proof of valid, current state driver’s license and automobile property and casualty insurance at all times
6. Required to pass a background check performed upon acceptance of the position

Compensation
The salary range for this position starts at $48,000.00 and is based on education and experience.
