POSITION TITLE: Development Director
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Development, Special Olympics Ohio
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Salaried)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes
LOCATION: Remote – Northeast Ohio
TRAVEL: 30%
SUMMARY
The Director of Development is responsible for expanding fund-raising efforts to ensure the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of gifts to ensure the successful completion of annual and endowment campaigns, in support of Special Olympics Ohio’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. As a key member of the development team, the Development Director will implement major gift development and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of individuals, corporations, foundations, and key partners in northeast Ohio.
The position works directly within the Development Department and has a wide range of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

• Support building a culture of philanthropy by attending Special Olympics Ohio activities and events across the state to further the understanding of athletes, volunteers, and donors in the Special Olympics Ohio community.
• Plan, manage, and execute strategies supporting the successful closure of major gifts using prospect moves management tools in The Raiser’s Edge NXT.
• Pursue appropriate professional development opportunities to learn about, test, and deploy best practices and emerging trends in major gift and peer-to-peer fund-raising.
• Work with Vice President of Development and Development Team to identify and refine fundraising
strategies to support increases in philanthropic support of Special Olympics Ohio, including annual, endowment, and capital giving.
• Attend and support regional and state sports competitions and events, as well as peer-to-peer fund-raising events throughout Ohio.
• Manage and serve as the primary relationship manager for a major gift portfolio supporting the mission of Special Olympics Ohio.
• Liaison and collaborate with regional and state staff supporting sports and field operations, Unified Champions Schools, and Healthy Athletes programs.
• Participate in the development and documentation of policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, quality, and integrity of data entry in the CRM.
Preferred Qualifications, Experience & Skills
• Experience with fundraising CRM solutions, including The Raiser’s Edge NXT, TeamRaiser, and Luminate Online.
• Understanding of prospect moves management, donor recognition and stewardship strategies, and prospect research.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the following skills: Action Oriented, Decision Quality, Dealing Change and Uncertainty, Building Effective Teams, Customer Focused and Managing Vision & Mission Purpose.
Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• 3 – 5 years of experience managing systems and support for development programs.
Miscellaneous Information
1. This position is full-time, exempt
2. Days and hours of work are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
3. Evening/weekend work may be required as job duties demand
Salary Range: $60,000 – $95,000/year
