Coronavirus Guidelines, Information, & Resources

19 March 2020

Please know that Special Olympics Ohio leaders are monitoring all developments and information in the coronavirus crisis and making decisions to help keep all athletes, their families and supporters, volunteers, constituents, and every other stakeholder in this organization safe and healthy. These are not easy decisions to make and the impact is understood as best as it can be in such unfamiliar conditions.

Due to the rapidly changing coronavirus situation, we are updating our previous guidance as follows:

Special Olympics Ohio is suspending ALL activities involving our athletes (practices, competitions, SO/Inclusive Health, Athlete Leadership, social events, etc.) and ALL other activities (fundraising, volunteer recruitment, etc.) through 30 April 2020 at which time the situation will be re-evaluated.

To ensure the health and safety of our team and the responsible support of our athletes and affected communities, Special Olympics Ohio staff will be working remotely until further notice. You can expect typical response time from all staff members.

If you have questions or need assistance with matters involving Special Olympics Ohio athletes or programs, please contact Special Olympics Ohio Chief Operating Officer John Wysocki at or 614-239-7050 ext. 20.

As this is a constantly evolving situation, we have appointed a single organizational spokesperson: Kate Burdett, Director of Marketing and Communication.  If you are contacted by a member of the media, please do not respond directly but instead direct them to Kate at  or 614-239-7050 ext. 31.

Additionally, if you are opting to share information via social media, please either share a link to the SOOH website or repost/retweet Special Olympics Ohio’s communications in their entirety. This will allow individuals with comments or concerns to communicate them in a way that we can monitor and effectively respond.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this constantly changing circumstance and strive to make the best decisions with the safety and well-being of our athletes and all constituents at the forefront.

Please be safe and stay healthy. With patience and compassion, we will get through this.

Jessica Stewart
Chief Executive Officer
