Team Ohio Blog - July 24

It is hard to believe how quickly a week can pass. This time last week were getting Team Ohio settled into the dorm, getting lunches and unpacking. Now I am getting ready to great them at the airport in Columbus!

Our team sports ended up all medaling. Our superstar undefeated softball team won their last game 16 – 1 to earn the gold. The basketball team lost in the finals by only three points to Indiana and earned silver. They played with such heart all week and had a huge fan base following them. The volleyball team toughed it out on Friday and they are brining home the bronze!

The aquatics 4 X 50 relay struck gold! It was questionable whether they would even get to compete since one of the athletes on the team had been very ill all week. Margot decided on Thursday to scratch from her individual events and compete only in the relay. She did not want to let her team down and she was determined to compete…a true inspiration!

Our final medal count…17 gold, 18 silver and 10 bronze. Pretty impressive!! The athletes are brining home lots of medals, some ribbons and a ton of memories. Even more impressive than the medal count are the friendships that were made for each of the athletes on Team Ohio. For most, this was a once in a lifetime experience and our coaches, families and the volunteers in Lincoln all made the 2010 National Games a truly wonderful experience and competition for Team Ohio.

We will have more photos up in the next few days…it has been an honor to follow Team Ohio this week and be a part of it all!!
