Team Ohio Blog - July 22
Team Ohio team sports are in it to win it on Friday and individual sports collected lots of hardware on Thursday. The basketball team will be playing at 10:30 vs. Indiana and the softball team will play at 12:30…both teams for the gold. After a tough Thursday, the volleyball team will hit the court at 9 a.m. to stay in medal contention. Good luck guys!!
The powerlifting venue was one of the best at these Games. The athletes and coaches were all cheering for all of the athletes regardless of what state and these guys are STRONG. Two athletes from Missouri and Delaware were benching over 300 lbs. and deadlifting close to 500lbs…pretty impressive. I learned this week that powerlifting is not only about strength but form as well. There is a lot of technique involved, posture, commands, etc that need to be followed and these guys are great. Sam Menker earned the silver medal in the deadlift with a lift of 336.2 lbs. Clyde Yoder earned the silver in the bench and combined and 4th in the deadlift. Clyde’s last attempt in both events were an inch from being clean. Sam is the strongest guy on the team and lifted the 336.2 pounds like it was nothing!
The track team had an awesome day as well! The 4X100 relay team earned the silver and they were so fast I could barely get any pictures of them. Jeff earned the silver in the pentathlon and Amanda earned two golds in the running long jump and 800 meter run.
All of the results for all of the athletes are posted at www.sooh.org.
All members of the tennis team medaled. Megan and Josh both earned the gold in singles and teamed up to earn the gold in doubles. Megan breezed through all of her singles matches and her last singles match was the closest was 4 – 1, 4-2 for the gold. The males have all had to go to tie breakers and the matches have been close. Josh’s last match was 5-3, 1-4, 8-6 in the gold medal round. Micheal earned the silver in a match that went 1-4, 4-3. 6-8.
Cody and Aaron are bowling their singles round on Friday and they teamed up with the ladies to win a gold medal in the team competition!
We will have a final medal count Friday afternoon. Closing Ceremonies are Friday at 6 p.m. Safe travels to everyone leaving early!
